About the journal

Aims and scope

Aim AJ-AHEC aims to promote high-impact research in algorithms, AI, and emergent computational models. We strive to provide a bridge between the natural sciences, engineering, and social sciences through the lens of advanced computation.

Scope We welcome original research, reviews, and perspective pieces in the following areas:

• Algorithmic Theory: Approximation, randomized, distributed, and parallel algorithms.

• AI & Machine Learning: Deep learning, explainable AI, reinforcement learning, and algorithmic fairness.

• Emergent Computation: Complex systems, swarm intelligence, multi-agent systems, and self-organization.

• Bio-Inspired Computing: Evolutionary algorithms, neural networks, and nature-inspired models.

• New Horizons: Quantum algorithms, neuromorphic architectures, and DNA computing.

• Data-Driven Computing: Big data algorithms, blockchain, and cloud-edge computing.

• Applications: Robotics, smart cities, bioinformatics, and computational finance.

Peer review

We employ a rigorous Double-Blind Peer Review process to ensure impartiality and scientific excellence. This means the identities of the authors are concealed from the reviewers, and the reviewers remain anonymous to the authors.

1. Initial Assessment: The Editor-in-Chief checks the manuscript for scope and basic quality.

2. Review: At least two independent experts evaluate the scientific rigor, methodology, and ethical compliance.

3. Decision: Authors receive constructive feedback and a decision (Accept, Revise, or Reject) based on the reviewers’ recommendations.

Open access

AJ-AHEC is a fully Open Access journal. We believe that knowledge should be free and accessible to everyone. All articles are free to read, download, and share immediately upon publication.

Article Processing Charges (APC) To support the research community, we are not charging any APC till December 2028. Publication is currently free for all authors.

Ethics and policies

Ethics in publishing

We adhere to the highest standards of publication ethics. We expect all authors to follow international ethical guidelines for research integrity. This includes avoiding fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism. We deal with all allegations of misconduct according to COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines.

Authors must ensure their work is accurate and objective.

• Originality: The work must be entirely original.

• Citations: Proper acknowledgment of other works is mandatory.

• Hazards: If your work involves chemicals, procedures, or equipment that have any unusual hazards inherent in their use, you must clearly identify these in the manuscript.

Submission declaration

By submitting an article, you imply that the work implies has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract, a published lecture, or an academic thesis), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, and that its publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out.

Authorship

Authorship should be limited to those who have made a substantial contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study.

• All authors must: Approve the final version of the manuscript and agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work.

• Non-authors: Contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed in the Acknowledgements section.

• AI Tools: AI and LLMs (Large Language Models) cannot be listed as authors.

Changes to authorship

Please finalize the author list before submission. Any addition, deletion, or rearrangement of author names in the authorship list can only be made before the manuscript has been accepted and only if approved by the Editor-in-Chief. To request a change, the corresponding author must supply:

1. The reason for the change.

2. Written confirmation (e-mail) from all authors that they agree with the addition, removal, or rearrangement.

Declaration of competing interests

Transparency is key. All authors must disclose any financial and personal relationships with other people or organizations that could inappropriately influence (bias) their work. If there are no interests to declare, please state: "The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper."

Funding sources

Please identify who provided financial support for the conduct of the research and/or preparation of the article and describe the role of the sponsor(s). If the research did not receive specific funding, please state: "This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors."

Declaration of generative AI use

We embrace technology but require transparency.

• Text/Code: If you used Generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT) in the writing process, you must disclose this in the "Acknowledgements" or "Methods" section.

• Responsibility: The authors are ultimately responsible and accountable for the contents of the work. AI should not be cited as an author.

Preprints

Sharing your research early is encouraged. AJ-AHEC allows authors to share their work on preprint servers (e.g., arXiv, SSRN) before or during the submission process. This does not count as prior publication. Once published, we ask that you update the preprint with a link to the final version on our website.

Use of inclusive language

Inclusive language acknowledges diversity, conveys respect to all people, is sensitive to differences, and promotes equal opportunities. Content should make no assumptions about the beliefs or commitments of any reader; contain nothing which might imply that one individual is superior to another on the grounds of age, gender, race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, disability, or health condition.

Reporting sex- and gender-based analyses

In accordance with SAGER guidelines, authors should use the terms sex (biological attribute) and gender (shaped by social or cultural circumstances) carefully. Where relevant, please indicate how sex and/or gender were taken into account in the design of the study and the analysis of the data.

Jurisdictional claims

AJ-AHEC remains neutral with regard to jurisdictional claims in published maps and institutional affiliations.

Writing and formatting

File format

• Language: Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise English.

• Font: Use a standard font (e.g., Times New Roman, 12pt) with double line spacing.

• Line Numbers: Please include continuous line numbers to facilitate the review process.

• Length: While we do not have strict limits, we encourage conciseness. Standard research papers are typically 5,000–8,000 words.

We accept the following formats for the manuscript source file:

• Microsoft Word (.docx)

• Portable Document Format (.pdf) for initial phase of review only.

Title page

The title page should include:

1. A concise and informative title.

2. The name(s) of the author(s).

3. The affiliation(s) and address(es) of the author(s).

4. The e-mail address and telephone number of the corresponding author.

Abstract

A concise and factual abstract is required (maximum 250 words). The abstract should state briefly the purpose of the research, the principal results, and major conclusions. An abstract is often presented separately from the article, so it must be able to stand alone.

Keywords

Immediately after the abstract, provide 5 to 8 specific keywords. Avoiding general and plural terms and multiple concepts (for example, 'and', 'of').

Highlights

Highlights are optional but encouraged. They consist of a short collection of bullet points that convey the core findings of the article. Please include 3 to 5 highlights (maximum 85 characters, including spaces, per highlight).

Graphical abstract

A Graphical Abstract is optional for this journal. If included, It should summarize the contents of the article in a concise, pictorial form designed to capture the attention of a wide readership online. Image size: Please provide an image with a minimum of 531 × 1328 pixels (h × w).

Math formulae

Use a standard equation editor. Submit math as editable text, not as images.

Tables

Submit tables as editable text and not as images. Tables can be placed either next to the relevant text in the article, or on separate page(s) at the end. Number tables consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the text.

Figures, images and artwork

• Resolution: Ensure high resolution (min. 300 dpi for halftones, 1000 dpi for line art).

• Format: JPEG, TIFF, EPS, or PDF are preferred.

• Captions: Ensure every figure has a caption. Supply captions separately, not attached to the figure.

Generative AI and Figures, images and artwork

Authors must not use Generative AI tools to create or alter images in data-driven figures (e.g., charts, graphs, histograms) where the integrity of the data is paramount. AI may be used for artistic illustrations or schematic diagrams, but this must be clearly declared in the figure caption (e.g., "Image generated using Midjourney").

Supplementary material

Supplementary material such as applications, extensive data sets, and extra tables can be published with your article to enhance it. Submitted supplementary items are published exactly as they are received (Excel or PDF files).

Video

We accept video material and animation sequences to support and enhance your scientific research. Authors who have video or animation files that they wish to submit with their article are strongly encouraged to include links to these within the body of the article.

Research data

We believe in reproducible science. We strongly encourage you to share the data that supports your findings.

Data statement

All articles must include a "Data Availability Statement" at the end of the manuscript. Options include:

• "The data that support the findings of this study are available in [Repository Name] at [DOI/URL]."

• "Data are available on request from the authors."

• "Data sharing is not applicable to this article as no new data were created."

Data linking

If your data is hosted in an external repository (e.g., GitHub, Zenodo, Dryad), please ensure the link/DOI is active and correctly cited in the text.

Research Elements

This journal encourages the submission of Research Elements—brief, peer-reviewed articles describing research methods, data, or software—to make your work more discoverable and citable.

Co-submission of related data, methods or protocols

If you are submitting a methods paper or a data paper alongside your research article, please cross-reference them clearly in your cover letter and manuscript.

Article structure

Your manuscript should generally follow this structure:

1. Introduction: State the objectives of the work and provide an adequate background.

2. Material and methods: Provide sufficient detail to allow the work to be reproduced.

3. Results: Results should be clear and concise.

4. Discussion: Explore the significance of the results of the work, not merely repeat them.

5. Conclusions: The main conclusions of the study may be presented in a short Conclusions section.

6. Appendices: If there is more than one appendix, they should be identified as A, B, etc.

References

Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list (and vice versa).

• Style: We use the IEEE standard style. Please be consistent throughout the manuscript.

• DOI: Include Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for all references where available.

Submitting your manuscript

Submission checklist

Manuscripts should be submitted via our online portal. The system will guide you stepwise through the creation and uploading of your files.

Before sending it in, please check:

• One author has been designated as the corresponding author.

• Files are in the correct format (Word/LaTeX).

• All figures and tables are included and legible.

• Spell and grammar checks have been performed.

• All references are correct.

• Conflict of interest and Funding statements are included.

After receiving a final decision

Article Transfer Service

If your paper is accepted, it will be sent to production. You will receive a proof to check for typesetting errors. Once approved, the article will be published online immediately.

If the Editor feels your article is better suited for one of our partner journals, we may propose transferring your submission. You can accept or decline this offer.

Publishing agreement

Upon acceptance, authors will be asked to complete a 'Journal Publishing Agreement'. This is necessary to safeguard the rights of both the authors and the journal.

License options

We offer the following license to ensure your work is free to share:

• CC BY 4.0: This license allows reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, so long as attribution is given to the creator. The license allows for commercial use.

Open access

AJ-AHEC is Gold Open Access. There are no paywalls. Your research is instantly available to everyone, everywhere.

Permission for copyrighted works

If you reuse a figure or table from another publication, you must obtain written permission from the copyright holder and credit the source.

Proof correction

Corresponding authors will receive an e-mail with a link to our online proofing system. Please use this proof only for checking the typesetting, editing, completeness, and correctness of the text, tables, and figures. Significant changes to the scientific content are not permitted at this stage.

Upon publication, you will receive a Share Link. This is a personalized link providing free access to your article. We encourage you to share this on social media and with your colleagues.
